Ozil will stay at Arsenal – agent

Mesut Ozil will stay at Arsenal past this summer and see the rest of his contract out, according to his agent.

The German has endured a torrid year following his country’s unexpected exit from the World Cup in Russia last year, for which a large part of the national football public blamed him. He felt he was a victim of racism at the time and decided to retire from the national team.

Throughout the season he was in and out of the Arsenal team, and it was believed for a long time that he tactically didn’t fit in with the plans and designs of manager Unai Emery. He hasn’t been a stranger to injuries either.

All of this led to speculations that his time with the club might be coming to an end, and several pundits expressed their views that the Gunners should be parting ways with him, rather than Aaron Ramsey.

However, Ramsey has played his last game in an Arsenal shirt and will join Juventus come July 1st, while Ozil remains at the Emirates. Dr Erkut Sogut, who represents the attacking midfielder, told the media in Turkey (as relayed by Sky Sports) that his client “bleeds Arsenal” and intends to remain in north London.
