Pablo Mari eyes permanent Udinese deal

Arsenal defender Pablo Mari, currently plying his trade with Udinese on loan, has revealed he would like to stay with the Serie A side past the expiration of the current arrangement.

“I’d like to stay in Serie A next season,” the 28-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport. “I’m under contract until June 2024 with Arsenal – but I’m so happy here at Udinese”.

Mari started the first two Premier League matches of the season for the Gunners, but Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White have established themselves as Mikel Arteta’s preferred pairing in the heart of defence since. Obviously unhappy with the situation, he was open to Udinese’s approach to spend the second half of the season there.

Udinese are believed to have asked for an option to buy at the end of the temporary spell, but Arsenal wouldn’t hear of it, determined to keep control of the Spaniard’s future, which means the two clubs will have to enter a fresh round of negotiations about a potential permanent switch.
