Real Madrid recently agreed a deal to sign Exequiel Palacios from River Plate. After monitoring him closely for around three years, the Champions League holders snatched him from the clutches of arch-rivals Barcelona and Inter Milan.
The deal had been set for the upcoming January transfer window, but according to Marca, the player’s agent Renato Corsi revealed talks are underway to postpone the move until the summer. If things turn out the way he plans them to, Real would still complete the signing in January and then leave the midfielder in Argentina for a further six months.
As the reason for this suggestion Corsi names the player’s need for minutes on the pitch, as well as the possibility of great deeds with his current club. River Plate are set to face their arch-rivals Boca Juniors in a two-leg Copa Libertadores final in November, from which a win would see them appear at the Club World Cup. Palacios could then even earn a call-up for Argentina for the Copa America.
A move to Santiago Bernabeu in January could put all that at risk.
