AFC Bournemouth welcome Newcastle United on Saturday as part of the 31st round of the Premier League season.
Bournemouth
The Cherries have been going through a remarkable story for the past decade. They first appointed Eddie Howe as their manager while they were facing relegation from League 2, and have since made remarkable progress to become what they are today – a stable Premier League club.
They have had some ups and downs this season, achieving some remarkable victories and some disappointing defeats. They sit 12th at the moment, relatively safe from relegation with nine points more than Cardiff City in 18th, and their chances of making a European appearance this year simply don’t exist. However, they haven’t been known to lack motivation during a game under Howe.
Team News
Liverpool loanee Nathaniel Clyne is almost certain to start with fullback Adam Lewis out due to a hamstring issue. Winger Ryan Fraser missed some training sessions this week, needing some time to recover from the harsh tackles he faced against Huddersfield previously, but he should be fit in time.
Newcastle
The Magpies have been under a strain in recent months due to the future of the club in terms of ownership being fairly uncertain, as well as the future of manager Rafa Benitez who seems to feel a lack of support from the current club owners when it comes to the transfer market.
Nonetheless, they have managed to produce some fantastic results, not least a win over league leaders Manchester City. They sit in 13th place, directly below Bournemouth with three points less to their name, and they have some way to go yet before they can feel safe from relegation.
Team News
Newcastle face a bit of a defensive crisis at the moment with captain Jamaal Lascelles out with a knee problem and Fabian Schar suspended for two games with 10 yellow cards. The good news for Benitez is that Ciaran Clark is ready to return after suffering a knee injury of his own.
Conclusion
With all due respect to Benitez and Newcastle, another home win for the Cherries seems the likeliest outcome.
Verdict: Bournemouth win.
