Today (Monday) prosecutors in Romania opened corruption charges against the head of that countryÂ’s Professional Soccer League.

In a statement issued by the anti – corruption prosecutors they said that Dumitru Dragomir received a bribe in 2001 for the league to buy a property for a price that was three times higher than its market value. The league paid US$355,000 (€230,000) for a property that was built without a permit.

In the same case the vendor, then-National chairman Gino Iorgulescu, has been accused of money-laundering.

Dragomir also received a plot of land in the sale, which was registered in the name of his driver. Dragomir’s son, Bogdan Dragomir, and a driver are also cited as doing wrongdoing in the case.

Up to this stage no statement has been issued by the accused.
