Interviewed by Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel after Paris Saint-Germain beat Liverpool in the Champions League quarterfinals, on the eve of the 37th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, the Ligue 1 champions’ president Nasser Al-Khelaifi paid his respects to the victims of that fateful event, and even sent best wishes to Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike (formerly of PSG) who was stretchered off with what looked like a serious injury during the game.
Al-Khelaifi pointed out that beating Liverpool twice is a great achievement, but he also called for a down-to-earth approach due to the defence of the Champions League trophy PSG won last season being far from over.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s first reaction to reaching the #UCL semifinals was to pay tribute to the 97 Liverpool fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster on April 15, 1989.
He also showed support for Hugo Ekitike, who came off with a devastating injury. pic.twitter.com/s0bquEep0t
