Rakitić won’t renew Barca contract before summer

The future of Ivan Rakitić is currently in the air and it’s likely to remain the case until the end of the season.

As Marca have reported, Barcelona aren’t willing to discuss a new deal for the Croatian in the middle of the season, especially as the current one doesn’t expire before 2021. Last summer, Paris Saint-Germain expressed strong interest in his services, and Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu promised him a new deal which would see him receive a pay rise.

However, it seems now that even if the renewal happens in the summer, there will be no increase in salary, despite the promise.

There have already been reports of the 30-year-old midfielder contemplating his future and the possibility of leaving, though his agent Arturo Canales apparently said he couldn’t see that happening this summer. But if Rakitić does turn to the transfer market, there would certainly be a number of clubs interested to bring him in.
