On Monday, Real Madrid parted ways with Santiago Solari and reappointed Zinedine Zidane as the head coach. The Frenchman’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu dugout was quickly followed up with the club contacting Chelsea to try and work out a summer move for Eden Hazard, as exclusively revealed by the Daily Telegraph.
The report also suggest that Zidane being back will make the Belgian, who idolizes the French World Cup winner, more keen than ever on the move.
Real’s season has been arguably nothing short of a disaster. They’ve been knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax, Copa del Rey by Barcelona, and they’ve all but lost the La Liga title race to the rivals from Catalonia. Nothing seemed to work in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Juventus last summer, and the club are now hoping that the presence of Hazard would go some way in compensating for the lack og the Portuguese superstar.
Hazard hasn’t kept his wish to join Real a secret, though Chelsea have expressed their intention to keep him at Stamford Bridge, and given the two-window transfer ban they’ve been imposed with, they will likely be reluctant to part ways with the forward.
