Real in for Firpo

Real Madrid are interested in signing Junior Firpo from Real Betis, according to AS. Not only that, but the Champions League holders are ready to pay the €50 buyout clause to release the left-back from his current contract.

Real have apparently identified the 22-year-old as a suitable long-term replacement for Marcelo. Junior is a versatile defender, capable of deputizing as a centre-back if needed with his six-foot frame, but he can also play as a winger. Quite apart from the rumours that Juventus want to reunite Marcelo with Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin, Los Blancos are keen on securing a proper successor for the experienced Brazil international who turns 33 in May.

Head coach Santiago Solari has been satisfied with the performances of Sergio Reguilon, also 22, in Marcelo’s absence, but Real see Junior as the perfect candidate for the role on the left defensive flank and they’re ready to break the bank to secure his services.
