Real Madrid were on the verge of signing Pedro Guilherme from Fluminense this summer, but the transfer fell through at the eleventh hour due to the striker getting injured in a crucial moment, according to AS. The injury prompted the Champions League holders to shelve their interest, but the report claims it is only a temporary situation with Real still in for Pedro’s services.
Fluminense sporting director Paulo Angioni confirmed the deal had been at an ‘advanced stage’ before the injury struck, and that the whole business fell through only because of the player’s huge misfortune. It was a deal which would have alone, in his opinion, provided the Brazilian club with financial stability for the rest of the year.
Pedro has made a total of 76 appearances for Fluminense, which is very impressive for a 21-year-old player, and he found the opposition net 26 times.
Real have been struggling for goals since Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Juventus this summer, with Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema so far not proving nearly capable of compensating for the lack of the Portuguese superstar’s output.
