It’s fair to say Real Madrid are going through a turbulent period at the moment. Julen Lopetegui seems to have been the biggest victim of some poor decision-making, though it remains unclear who exactly made which decision. Due to his appointment being made public only days before the World Cup in Russia began, Lopetegui was sacked from the position of Spain national team head coach. A few months later, he suffered the same fate at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real’s poor start to the season culminated with a 5-1 humiliation at the hands of arch-rivals Barcelona; the final drop in Lopetegui’s cup of woes. However, according to Marca, the board and president Florentino Perez aren’t blaming only him.
Having discussed a few matters with captain Sergio Ramos, Perez has decided there are players to blame too, and come January, there will be some unexpected changes in the squad, both in terms of players outgoing and incoming.
However, it’s not to be expected that either Rodrygo Goes would be arriving from Santos or Exequiel Palacios from River Plate mid-season, as both clubs look to keep their players until the summer.
