Reina could be allowed to leave as Rodgers eyes young keeper

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could allow goalkeeper Pepe Reina to leave the club in the January transfer window, reveals the Daily Mail.

It is thought that Rodgers is eyeing up the possibility of singing England international Jack Butland from Birmingham City, or German prospect Ron-Robert Zieler from Hannover.

It seems as though the Reds’ boss is keen to bring in a young, talented keeper that can be the number one at Anfield for the foreseeable future and after Reina’s injury problems this campaign, he could be free to leave.

The Spaniard has missed a chunk of the English Premier League season and with his understudy Bran Jones not exactly setting the world alight, Rodgers could dive into the transfer market for a new shot-stopper.

Butland is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in England and at just 19-years-old, he certainly looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

As for Zieler, he has more experience than the Englishman as he has two full Germany caps and has played regularly in the Bundesliga. However, he is likely to cost around £12 million – something that Rodgers is set to mull over.

It is certainly a very interesting story to keep an eye on.
