Rodriguez and Vydra sign new Burnley deals

Jay Rodriguez and Matej Vydra have signed new deals with Burnley, it has been officially confirmed.

Born in Burnley, Rodriguez came through the youth ranks at the club and was promoted to the first team in 2007. His path so far has led through loan spells with Scottish side Stirling and Barnsley, and he joined Southampton on a permanent deal in 2012. Five years later, he left St Mary’s and moved to Hawthorns where he played two seasons for West Bromwich Albion. The 31-year-old eventually returned to Burnley in 2019 on a two-year deal.

Vydra, 28, played for three clubs as a youngster in his country of Czech Republic before joining Udinese in 2010. From there, he had loan spells with Club Brugge, West Brom and Watford. He joined the Hornets permanently in 2015 but he spent the following season on loan with Reading, before being sold to Derby County at the end of the campaign. In 2018, he signed for Burnley for an undisclosed fee.

Both strikers are now tied to Burnley until the summer of 2022, but in the case of Rodriguez, the Clarets have an option of a one-year extension.
