Rohl praises ´professional´ Rangers after Queen´s Park demolition job

Rangers coach Danny Rohl hailed a “very professional” display from his players, following their Scottish Cup rout over Queen’s Park.

Rohl’s side soared into the quarter-finals after a dominant 8-0 victory at Ibrox, where the hosts avenged their shock defeat by the same opponents in last season’s competition.

Ryan Naderi marked his first start by opening the scoring after eight minutes, while James Tavernier struck a first-half hat-trick, and a Matty Shiels own-goal made it 5-0 at the break.

Naderi grabbed his second goal early in the second half, while later strikes from Bojan Miovski and Tochi Chukwuani completed the rout of the Championship’s bottom side.

“You never know what will happen in a cup game, you have to take it very seriously. Today, we did our job,” Rohl said.

“It was very professional. We scored early. This is always helpful in such a game. It was about being hungry for more.

“When I took over, it was about finding a group to find wins and get balance. Now, win by win, we feel the confidence. Everyone is now focused on the next game because we have a big week ahead.”

Meanwhile, Queen’s Park boss Sean Crighton was left to rue an under-par performance from his side, but insisted they cannot afford to “feel sorry for ourselves”.

“We didn’t turn up on the day, and that’s not something I’ve said too often about this group,” he said. “We were miles off it.

“We got the basics wrong all over the pitch, set-plays. Obviously, it’s very difficult being 5-0 down at half-time.

“This is going to hurt, but the players need to use that hurt. We need to move on and not feel sorry for ourselves.”
