Saints reject Hammers bid for Lambert

Southampton have rejected a bid from West Ham United for striker Rickie Lambert, according to the Mirror.

Hammers’ manager Sam Allardyce is desperate to bring in more firepower in order to help steer his goal-shy squad away from the Premier League relegation zone, but will need to look elsewhere as the Saints have no intention of selling the England international.

The 32 year old signed a new contract with the South Coast club in March which will keep him at St Mary’s until 2016, while there is also an agreement in place that the deal will be extended year on year if he plays more than half of the clubs games in matches.

The former Rochdale and Bristol Rovers man, who made his international debut against Scotland back in August, scoring the winning goal three minutes after coming on as a second half substitute.

His next league goal will be his 100th for the Saints, who currently sit ninth in the Premier League.
