Mohamed Salah believes he has “a good chance” of winning the 2025 Ballon d’Or, after playing a starring role in Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning season.

The Egyptian is the standout candidate for the 2024-25 Premier League Player of the Season award, having helped the Reds to their second title in five years.

Salah tops the goals (28) and assists (18) charts after

Salah has broken the record for the most goal involvements in a 38-game season (46; 28 goals and 18 assists), and is now one away from matching the overall record of 47, shared by Andrew Cole (1993-94) and Alan Shearer (1994-95).

The forward is currently top of the goals and assists charts, and would be the first player in Premier League history to do so in two separate campaigns (also achieving the feat in 2021-22).

When asked if the Ballon d’Or was a major target of his, Salah told Sky Sports: “It used to drive me crazy before. Some stuff is not in your hands, so you give up in that direction.

“When you go to work, you remind yourself of what you want to achieve in the season, so it drives you to work harder. I’d love to win it one day. But if it didn’t happen, I don’t know what to do.

“I’m sure there’s a good chance to win it this year, but we’ll see.”

Salah finally ended months of speculation surrounding his future by putting pen to paper on a two-year contract extension at Anfield in April.

At the start of the season, the 32-year-old felt there was a strong chance he would leave the club at the end of his initial deal, which was due to expire at the end of this term.

However, negotiations appeared more promising as the campaign wore on and, with his future now secure, Salah wants to add to the two Premier League titles and Champions League (2018-19) in his trophy cabinet.

Asked on the likelihood of him staying at Liverpool at the start of this season, he said: “Based on club history, 10%.

“The philosophy of the club. I know how they dealt with their players over 30 in the past. I didn’t expect I was going to stay. It’s not something bad.

“It took six months for the negotiations to go really quickly, and from January, things were getting better and better. It took us a while. I think the club was testing me to see if I could still provide or not!

“I really hope we win the Champions League again. I know the Premier League is always nice for the club and that’s how it should be, but I would love to win the Champions League and Premier League again.”
