Salah signs new Liverpool deal

Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract with Liverpool, the Merseyside club have confirmed.

The Egyptian winger enjoyed a highly successful season with Liverpool, scoring 44 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions since his arrival from AS Roma. Thirty-two of those goals came in the Premier League, making him the highest scoring player in a single 38-game season in the history of the league.

His fantastic goalscoring output was of immense importance for Liverpool’s second successive top-four finish, as well as their run to the Champions League final.

Such a season from the winger prompted numerous media speculations about his future, with Liverpool’s recent history of selling their best players adding fuel to the stories. Real Madrid and Barcelona were mentioned the most, and some reports even claimed the player had instructed his agent to seek a move away from Liverpool, but the new deal Salah has signed should go a long way to putting those rumours to bed, though Spanish media are still likely to present their own version of the development.

According to Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce, the deal is set to keep Salah at Anfield for five years and it doesn’t contain a buyout clause.
