Porto have confirmed that striker Samu Aghehowa has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Samu came off at half-time during their 1-1 draw with Primeira Liga title rivals Sporting CP on Monday, with the forward now set to miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Since the 21-year-old joined Porto ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, he has scored 32 goals in 50 league matches.

In that time, only Viktor Gyokeres (39) and Vangelis Pavledis (38) have scored more often in the Portuguese top-flight, while Samu has the fourth-best minutes per goal ratio (114.9 – minimum 10 goals scored).

The club released a statement that said: “Samu, who was substituted at half-time in the match against Sporting (1-1), suffered a sprained right knee with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

“The Spanish international will be re-evaluated by FC Porto’s Medical Department in the coming days.”

Samu is now also set to miss the 2026 World Cup, with Spain one of the favourites to lift the trophy this summer.

The former Atletico Madrid striker featured twice for Spain during their qualifying campaign, including a substitute appearance in their final match against Turkey.
