Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed he wants Cesc Fabregas to stay at the club, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Fabregas is currently playing second fiddle to Jorginho, a player who followed Sarri from Napoli to Stamford Bridge during the summer, and he has been linked with a move away from the club for a while now.
However, the 59-year-old Italian coach claims the former Arsenal captain is very important for his team, as he has no other alternative for Jorginho. Sarri has changed the role of N’Golo Kante in the team with the Frenchman now playing further up the pitch, rather than in the holding role where he played under Antonio Conte and at Leicester City before that, winning back-to-back Premier League titles with the two clubs.
Sarri says the problem with Fabregas staying is the club’s policy to offer players over 30 only 12-month extensions, and he fully understands the 31-year-old’s concerns, but he also stresses that the rules must be respected.
