With the mood in Schalke’s camp the highest it has been in recent memory, the Blues will welcome Koln to the VELTINS-Arena on Saturday evening.

Starting with the hosts, putting in a very impressive 3-1 win away at Champions League qualifiers RB Leipzig last weekend and handing the title outsiders their first defeat, Schalke have really started to shine under new boss David Wagner. Despite only just avoiding the drop last season, the Blues have climbed into the top-four and the mood around the VELTINS-Arena continues to soar. Now enjoying a four-match winning run in Germany’s top-tier the former Huddersfield boss will be most impressed by his side’s form in the final third. Along with bagging a trio of goals at the Red Bull Arena last time out, Schalke have now bagged a very impressive 13 strikes on their winning run.

As for the visitors, coming off the back of a season-worst display and suffering a 4-0 hammering at home against Hertha Berlin last weekend, Koln appear to be in pole position to secure an immediate relegation. Losing five of their six Bundesliga matchups since marking their return over the summer, there is no doubt that fans around the RheinEnergieStadion will be most concerned by their side’s form in the final third. With no side in Germany’s top-tier bagging fewer goals than Achim Beierlorzer’s men, they have also now failed to find the net in their last three matches on the bounce.
