Sergio Ramos set for new Real contract

Real Madrid are set to give Sergio Ramos a 12-month extension on his current deal, AS have reported.

The 34-year-old defender has been at the Santiago Bernabeu for 15 years now. He has so far made 640 appearances in the famous white shirt and scored 92 goals, and though the numbers are impressive in themselves, they hardly do justice to what his presence, leadership and defensive prowess have meant to the team over the years. He’s helped them win four La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, Copa del Rey twice, four Club World Cups, four Spanish Super Cups and three UEFA Super Cups. He has also played 170 times for Spain.

His current deal is about to enter its final year, but Real are keen to bind him to them until 2022, and AS claim both the club and the player will sign the deal soon.

Ramos spoke about playing in the MLS when his time in the Spanish capital comes to an end, but it seems America will have to wait a bit longer to see him in action on the other side of the Atlantic.
