According to a recent report from Sky Sports News, Chris Smalling is expected to return to Manchester United following his current loan spell with Roma. Smalling previously agreed to spend the remainder of the season with the Italian side, although some believed it was a clear sign that he’d be leaving at the end of that stint in order to complete a permanent switch away from Old Trafford. Smalling has been on a strong run of form in the early stage of his time in Rome, with the belief being that he is one of the club’s best defenders.
As it turns out, up to this point, there have been no talks whatsoever between the two clubs regarding the possibility of the deal becoming a permanent one.
Smalling is an incredibly talented defender in the eyes of Roma, but it would appear as if the club are choosing to focus on the here and now as opposed to anything else.
