Ole Gunnar Solskjaer challenged Manchester United to show they had improved by backing up their win over Paris Saint-Germain.

United recorded a 2-1 Champions League win in Paris on Tuesday in a boost ahead of hosting Chelsea.

The Premier League giants also stunned PSG in March last year, but then won just two of their final 12 games of the 2018-19 season.

Solskjaer, whose team are 15th in the table after collecting just six points from four games, said he was eager to see United had improved since then.

“For me, now we need consistency,” the United manager told reporters.

“We’ve been too up and down. We need to address the home form and for me, the next week is a great test for us because we all remember what happened after the last time we beat PSG – the response wasn’t the greatest, was it?

“It’s a chance for our players and also for the staff to show that we’ve moved on from that time.”

United go into their clash against Chelsea having already suffered home losses to Crystal Palace and Tottenham.

With games being played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic, Solskjaer said it had been an unusual start to the campaign.

“Well, the league this season has started very strangely, and it is a very strange atmosphere in the stadiums,” he said.

“It’s not the same, it’s not like the way it used to be. Without the fans it’s more sterile. After the win against PSG, it’s almost like we’ve been to the training ground and done well in training. The edge is missing.”
