Southampton want Cahill

Southampton are interested in signing Gary Cahill from Chelsea, according to the Mirror.

The 32-year-old has won every major trophy available to an English club with Chelsea. He has two Premier League titles in his bag, an FA Cup and a League Cup, as well as the 2012 Champions League and the 2013 Europa League. Since his arrival from Bolton in 2011, he has made 280 appearances for the London Blues and netted 25 times in all competitions.

However, he is out of contract next summer and given that he turns 33 this December, it will be interesting to see if he will get a new deal he would find satisfactory enough in terms of his role in the team to remain at Stamford Bridge. Manager Maurizzio Sarri has already shown that he prefers David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger as the first-choice centre-back pair.

Southampton are looking for experienced defensive reinforcements as they’ve only kept two clean sheets so far this term, and conceded late goals in their defeat to Leicester and draw to Brighton, both at home. If proven obtainable, Cahill would fit their requirements perfectly.
