Spurs not singing Brazil international

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Andre Villas-Boas, has admitted that it is unlikely that the club will sign Leandro Damiao, Talk Sport reports.

Spurs have been linked with the Brazilian for a while now, but a deal has never gone through and now it seems as though AVB will turn his attention elsewhere as he hunts for a new striker.

He said: “Leandro is a player we have always appreciated. The club appreciated him before I arrived. He is highly rated in the market but it is extremely unlikely he will play for Tottenham.”

The Brazil international is clearly enjoying his football in his native country right now and at 23-years-old, he doesn’t have to rush into making any decisions.

However, Spurs need a forward in this window and are sure to be disappointed that their target does not want to head to North London.

Emmanuel Adebayor will be competing in the African Cup of Nations, so Villas-Boas is left very light going forward and only has Jermain Defoe as a recognised striker right now.

It looks as though the Portuguese boss will be diving into the transfer market this month, but who might be entering White Hart Lane remains unclear.

If they want Champions League football though, at least one striker is needed.
