Aurelien Tchouameni was targeted by a number of clubs, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly among them. However, the young midfielder says though he respects PSG as one of the big European clubs, his intention to join Real Madrid was never in doubt.
“I didn’t think too much about PSG,” he told Telefoot.
“It’s also a big European club, but I had no doubts, I only wanted Real Madrid.”
Following the departure of Casemiro to Manchester United, Tchouameni was able to make an immediate impact at the Santiago Bernabeu and has already earned great praise from head coach Carlo Ancelotti. Mostly playing deep, providing protection for the back line like Casemiro used to, the 22-year-old has so far played eight matches for Los Blancos in all competitions, without a goal to his name so far but with two assists.
Tchouameni also played down the significance of the €80 million transfer fee commanded by AS Monaco for his transfer to the Spanish capital, by pointing out that he wasn’t the one that set that figure and as far as he’s concerned, it’s only important for him to perform well at his new club.
Liverpool are also believed to have held an interest but gave up straight away, after being told of the player’s choice to join Real.
