Bayer Leverkusen’s Martin Terrier celebrated scoring the best goal of his career after his scorpion kick propelled Kasper Hjulmand’s team to a 2-0 win over rivals Koln.

Substitute Terrier scored in stunning fashion in the 66th minute on Saturday, brilliantly converting from Arthur’s cross to put Leverkusen ahead.

Robert Andrich then sealed the win six minutes later, as Leverkusen snapped a two-game losing streak in the Bundesliga.

Terrier has struggled to cement himself as a regular at Leverkusen after an injury-hit first season at the club following his switch from Rennes in 2024, but he came up with what Hjulmand labelled as a “magic moment”.

“I think it’s the best goal of my career. I’m very happy to have helped the team with it. Especially in a game like this,” Terrier said.

“I was actually too quick at the start for Arthur’s cross. Then I saw the ball behind me and thought to myself: ‘OK, I’ll just go for it now’.

“I took the chance and it worked. In French, by the way, a goal like that is called a coup du scorpion.”

Hjulmand added: “It wasn’t an easy game. We needed a great performance to get the three points.

“The players who came in had a good impact. I’m proud of the team. After the defeat at Augsburg, the win was very important for us.”

Leverkusen have now lost just one of their last 24 Bundesliga matches against promoted sides – a 1-2 home defeat to Arminia Bielefeld in March 2021.

Since then, the Werkself are unbeaten in 17 consecutive games against promoted teams (W12 D4), which is their club record, and only RB Leipzig have a longer current run in the league (38).
