The Big Friday Premier League Quiz

The chaotic festive period in the Premier League is upon us, with some coronavirus-enforced postponements eating into the schedule.

There are eight fixtures to be played on Boxing Day, with Manchester United taking on Newcastle United a day later.

Most teams then face a congested, 48-to-72-hour turnaround before their next fixtures, much to the ire of some players and managers.

Liverpool were one of the teams who wanted the round of games on December 28, 29 and 30 to be postponed, but Jurgen Klopp’s side were due to start the Boxing Day action with an early home game against injury-hit Leeds United. However, that has been postponed due to a number of COVID-19 cases within the visitors’ squad.

Liverpool’s game being off means Manchester City would move six points clear at the top of the tree should they beat Leicester City, while Chelsea will look to halt their mini-slump when they take on Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

As you enjoy the festivities, why not unwrap our festive, Opta-powered quiz? The answers are at the end.

1. Chelsea drew 0-0 with Wolves last time out, only the second time in 18 away league games that the Blues have failed to score under Thomas Tuchel. Who was the other team to keep them out?

2. Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has scored eight Premier League goals against City, including two hat-tricks. Who are the only two other players to have scored more goals against City in the competition?

3. Robbie Fowler is the only Premier League player in the history of the competition to have scored more goals on Boxing Day than Harry Kane. But how many times has the Tottenham striker netted on December 26?

4. Norwich City host Arsenal, with Dean Smith’s side at the foot of the table with 10 points – only three teams bottom of the Premier League table at the start of Boxing Day have avoided relegation. Which side was the last to be propping up the table at Christmas, but still avoid relegation?

5. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored seven goals in the Premier League against Newcastle, the sixth and seventh of those coming on his second United debut back in September. Against which side has he scored more times in the English top flight?

2. Alan Shearer (11), Wayne Rooney (9)
3. Eight
