Barcelona signed Arthur Melo from Gremio for an initial fee of €32.8million this summer.
However, that amount is set to rise in coming days, according to Sport. The Spanish outlet report that the first add-on Barcelona will pay is now imminent, and it becomes due for payment when the midfielder plays his 10th game for the Blaugrana. So far he has made nine appearances, and the 10th might come when Barcelona welcome Atletic Bilbao to Camp Nou in La Liga today (Saturday), or in the Champions League against Tottenham Hotspur next week.
Any titles won by the Catalan club with Arthur in their team will also trigger additional payments, as well as a potential contract renewal. The fourth and last possibility of an add-on would become active should the Brazilian ever make FIFA’s 55-man shortlist for the best player on the planet.
Barcelona paid €4million in March to secure a preferential option for Arthur, and then an addition of €2.8million to bring the transfer, originally planned for January, forward by six months. The rest of the initial fee, amounting to €26million, will be paid in two installments.
