United back in for Baines

Manchester United are ready to make a fresh bid for Everton’s Leighton Baines when the transfer window reopens, the Mirror understands.

The Premier League champions were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the 29 year old during the summer, but David Moyes remains keen on taking him to Old Trafford.

The Toffee’s have no intention of letting their star player leave, and Baines himself proved in preseason that he is not likely to request a move away from the club that he joined from Wigan Athletic in 2007.

The England international made his return to Roberto Martinez’s line-up on Sunday after missing a month with a broken toe, as the Merseyside club beat Southampton 2-1 to move back into the top four having lost for only the second time in the league on Boxing Day.

Everton are available at a price of 7/2 to end the season in a Champions League qualification position for the first time since 2005.
