Van Bronckhorst holds Rangers talks

Giovanni Van Bronckhorst is currently in talks with Rangers to replace Steven Gerrard in the managerial role, according to Sky Sports.

Gerrard was appointed to the job in 2018, and he led the team to the Scottish Premiership title without a single defeat in 2020-21. However, the former Liverpool captain accepted an offer from Aston Villa to replace the sacked Dean Smith and left Rangers last week.

Van Bronckhorst appears to be the favourite to take over at the Ibrox, with his vision seemingly well-aligned with that of the club, but as things stand at the moment, former Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes and ex-Rangers player Gennaro Gattuso are still being considered as alternative options. Contrary to some reports, the short-list does not include former Derby County and Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard.

Nothing has been decided as of yet. The appointment is likely to take a few days more, with the club focusing on getting the right man for the job rather than rushing into an appointment despite a busy schedule close ahead.
