Raphael Varane has played down speculations about his future by saying he was happy at Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old defender spoke after France’s 4-1 win over Moldova in the Euro 2020 qualifiers, pouring cold water over reports he was unhappy at the Spanish capital following the return of Zinedine Zidane to the dugout.
“To say that I am not happy at Real Madrid is not true,” he told the French press.
The World Cup winner has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United who are reportedly looking to add a quality centre-back to their ranks, but he is adamant that his focus remains with his current club. He expressed his belief that Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world, and that being there requires him to constantly challenge himself.
Varane admitted that the club has had a tough season, but he is proud of the fact that he has given his best for their shirt, and he cannot control the things that are being said in the media.
