Barcelona defender was asked to comment the terrible scenes seen in Catalonia this weekend after the Catalan people held what’s been branded an illegal independence referendum.

A proud Catalan as he is, Pique was never too shy to open his mind on the subject, but this time he broke into tears as he told the media that ‘people have right to vote’.

An avid advocate of independence, Gerard Pique even offered to retire from the Spanish national team if Spanish FA has any problems with his beliefs.

He is happy to continue representing Spain though.

‘I think I can continue.’

‘But if the board really thinks I’m a problem, I will take a step back and leave the national team before 2018.’, he said.
