Villarreal have officially announced the signing of Miguel Layun, who joins from Portuguese giants Porto for a fee of around €4 million. The 30-year-old, who recently returned from the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Mexico following their Round of 16 defeat to Brazil, has been on the verge of a move away from Porto for quite some time now. Initially, it seemed as if a return to Sevilla may be on the cards, but instead, he’s moved across La Liga to play for the side who finished in 5th place last season – two places and three points above Sevilla.
Layun, 30, may be a familiar name to some English fans courtesy of his one-year tenure with Watford in the Premier League. Wherever he’s gone it’s seemed as if he’s never been able to lock down a consistent place in the first team, but perhaps the faith shown in him by Villarreal could lead to an extended stay.
