Looking to continue their very impressive form entering the New Year, Wellington Phoenix will travel to the Spotless Stadium on Tuesday morning.

Starting with the hosts, after failing to secure a top half finish in the A-League last season, it has been yet another sluggish start for Markus Babbel’s Western Sydney side. Coming off the back of a 2-1 loss to Melbourne Victory in their last outing at the Spotless Stadium, the former Bayern Munich man has now seen his side fail to win any of their last four league outings, a run that stems back to the 7th of December. Quickly freefalling down the A-League table and now sat down in eighth, they have also lost their last three home matches on the bounce and now hold the third worst defensive record in the division.

As for the visitors, while only a single point may have seen Wellington avoid finishing bottom of the A-League table last season, few would have expected the turnaround of Mark Rudan’s side. Picking up a point away at fellow top half contenders Adelaide United last time out, the Phoenix are now unbeaten in their last six league appearances. Another win for Rudan’s men on Tuesday would see the visitors climb within a point of high-flyers Melbourne City. Now unbeaten in their last three matches on the road, including a 3-1 win over defending champions Sydney, we’re backing Wellington to pull off another surprise result on Tuesday.
