West Bromwich Albion are close to signing David Button from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window, according to The Express & Star. It has been reported that discussions between West Brom – who will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship – and Brighton over the transfer of the 31-year-old goalkeeper have progressed well, and that a deal could be completed in the coming days.
Button has been on the books of Brighton since the summer of 2018 when he joined from Fulham for a transfer fee reported by The Express & Star to be worth £4 million. The former England Under-20 international has been a squad at the Seagulls and has made just four Premier League appearances in two years.
The 31-year-old is unlikely to be the first choice goalkeeper at West Brom and will be a back-up to Sam Johnstone.
