Whelan pens new Stoke deal

Glenn Whelan has penned a new one-year deal with Stoke City, according to ESPN.

He missed just one league game for the Potters last season, and has been rewarded for his consistent performances with a new contract.

The Republic of Ireland international moved to the Britannia Stadium from Sheffield Wednesday in January 2008 and has since racked up over three hundred appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals.

He was part of the squad that reached the 2011 FA Cup final, where his side lost to Manchester City.

He spent four years with Wednesday, who he joined from Manchester City while he has also had a loan spell at Bury early in his career.

He has most recently been on international duty, playing in his countries first two games at the European Championships in France.

In total, he has been capped seventy-three times for Ireland, scoring twice and also appeared at the Euro 2012.
