Speaking to the press ahead of his team’s clash with Southampton on Monday evening, Brighton and Hove boss Graham Potter expressed a strong belief that the transfer rumours currently doing rounds in the media aren’t affecting Ben White’s focus on the task at hand.
White had a hugely successful loan spell last season with Leeds United, who had several bids for his services, increasing as they came, rejected in the summer. At the moment, the 23-year-old defender, also capable of doing the job of a defensive midfielder if need be, is being heavily linked with Liverpool who lost Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for the best part, if not the whole season. However, White signed a new four-year deal in September and his signature certainly won’t come cheap.
“He gets on with his work and he was totally professional in the summer despite the noise from outside the club, which you can’t control”, Potter told the reporters.
“He knows that, he’s a smart guy and we will carry on with our work and help him to enjoy his football, which is the most important thing.”
