Will Signing David Beckham be a good move for Tottenham?

According to reports Premier League Tottenham are looking to bring in David Beckham on-loan for two months.

The deal has been questioned in some quarters and there are doubts over whether Beckham can still perform at the highest level.

Doubts

One person who has raised doubts over the deal is Beckham’s former boss at Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

He told Sky Sports: “The thing with David if he comes to England is that he will have to go back in March,”

“It’s a very short-term loan and we had the same situation with Henrik Larsson in 2007.  “We utilised those two months well and Henrik played a great part, but we knew we would miss him at the very time when we would have liked to have had him – at the tail-end of the season. But that was the arrangement, so we had to move on.”

There is merit in Sir Alex’s theory. Two months is a very short time for a loan deal. He would have to get to know his teammates and get back into the pace of the Premier League after spending time in the more leisurely pace of MLS.

England

Beckham is hoping to increase his chances of playing for England again with a move back to the Premier League. I believe at 35 years old he should bow out of international football gracefully instead of holding out hope of a recall. England coach Fabio Capello is trying to introduce more youth into his side and Beckham doesn’t seem to fit that criteria.

Rest

Currently it’s the off-season for Beckham and his MLS club LA Galaxy. At this point he should be resting and preparing for next season in the MLS instead of moving elsewhere to play football.

His Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan decided to turn down a second loan spell at Everton because he felt he needed to give his body a rest. Surely at 35 Beckham should be thinking about doing the same?

Beckham does keep himself in good physical condition but he is still coming towards the end of his footballing career. He needs to be more careful with his body.

Galaxy fans

The LA Galaxy fans are apparently irate that the former-Manchester United has decided to make another temporary move. They are irate because Beckham hasn’t played as much as they would like him to. They are again questioning his commitment to their cause.

Impact

If David Beckham does move to Tottenham I can only see him being an impact player, a player to come on late in games when Spurs need some fresh ideas or inspiration.

I really can’t see him starting many games. There is also big competition for places in the Tottenham midfield. However he will be a useful player to have in reserve for Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp.

Attractive

A move to Tottenham would be great for Beckham. He originally hails from London and Tottenham are a side playing Champions League football. They are the up and coming force in English football and an attractive proposal for most players.

Title

David Beckham has experience of winning trophies and that winning mentality could rub off on some his temporary Tottenham teammates. With Tottenham challenging for the Premier League title that winning mentality could prove crucial for the rest of the season.

With or without Beckham I can’t see Spurs winning the Premier League title this season. By the time the season finishes Beckham will be back in the USA having started the MLS season with the Galaxy. I’m sure David Beckham will add something to Tottenham’s season; I’m just not sure how much he will add.

Will David Beckham be a success at Tottenham?

I think David has got ability ti still play better football.Ofcourse he’s 35 now but he still has the hunger to play for his country..And yes he can deliver the ball in his style..I definately want Fabio capello shu include him in National squad..he has got bundle of experience at just 35.

200 million and he STILL HASNT PLAYED a full season.
Thats a man with no class, no sense of respect and commitment.

Please take this mediocre piece of trash that hasnt been relevant since 2003 and keep him and his fugly wife home.

    Please.

with bentley and kranjer leaving, spurs dont have a quality winger on the right other than lennon who can provide good crosses for crouch and van der vaart…..yes, hes down on pace but he can pass it well and can be a great influence on the younger players…..so its a decent short term loan deal…..and they’re not paying a lot too

No, 2 months is too short. He has served England well and should now focus on his future after retiring, not a recall for international duty.

It will be a good move… with all the publicity and the fame of David he will bring more money to the club… Of course he will not be having the same energy like his younger day… But his fame “actor” like appereance will benefit Topttenham on profit wise.

David should just rest his body.

He is making more than enough money at his age but maybe, from a marketing viewpoint, Spurs need him more than he needs them.

I think it will be a good idea for Totenham, looking on how desperate Beckham to play again in England, I think he will give 100%

No, I think he’s a great short-term signing. Lennon’s not bad at all, but let’s be honest he cant cross. And with Bale needing a real rest to preform at his best, another crossing winger would be great. Especially when you have players like Defoe, Van der Vaart, Pav, and let’s not forget about Crouchy. Plus, remember spurs is loseing two wingers this month too (bently, kranjar)

Beckham’s most likely going to tarnish his EPL legacy with this. some friends keep saying he’s going to be just like Brett Favre from American football.

Alan, you will be glad to know that it looks like the move has indeed fell through. The boy M’Vila looks like he could be a star of the future. His value will only rise in the next few years.

not a good move – seriously hope this falls through – is Arry starstruck. Spurs have a pace that builds momentum and pressure. Beckham will have the opposite effect.. never been quick he is now paceless at best. Can he cross a ball and pass yes but Spurs have players who can do this already…if he came then at the tough end of the season he will be gone. Short termism at worst. Arry should be investing in a younger player who will be around for a few year like Matuidi,Mvila, Kiessling
