Women´s League Cup: Chelsea hit nine past dismal Liverpool

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd scored a perfect hat-trick as Chelsea thrashed Liverpool 9-1 at St Helens Stadium to reach the Women’s League Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The Blues, who beat Manchester City in the final last year, were 4-0 up at the break, thanks to a four-minute Sam Kerr brace, before Wieke Kaptein and Aggie Beever-Jones also got in on the act.

Rytting Kaneryd whipped in her first from distance, though Liverpool did pull one back through Jenna Clark shortly after.

Any hope of an improbable fightback ended soon after, though, as Rytting Kaneryd completed her treble on either side of Sjoeke Nusken hitting the back of the net. Millie Bright rounded off the resounding victory in the 86th minute.

Chelsea will face a repeat of last year’s final when they take on Man City in the final four, after they brushed aside West Ham 5-1, with early goals from Kerolin Nicoli and Lauren Hemp.

Though Riko Ueki pulled one back for the Hammers, Grace Clinton restored City’s two-goal advantage in the first half, before Khadija Shaw and Laura Coombs scored after the break.

Manchester United and Arsenal will compete in the semi-final.

United came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1 thanks to goals from Jess Park and Fridolina Rolfo.

Arsenal cruised through with a 2-0 victory away at Crystal Palace, with Laia Codina and Stina Blackstenius on target.

Data Debrief: Chelsea pile more misery on Liverpool

Gareth Taylor has not had a happy return to management so far, and he saw Liverpool continue their dismal form against a rampant Chelsea side.

The Blues massively outperformed their 2.57 expected goals (xG), having 18 shots overall, with 11 of those on target.

Clark scored with Liverpool’s only big chance of the game, but it could have been even worse for the Reds, who also saw Chelsea hit the woodwork.
