Zidane won’t need Navas next season

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane intents to rely on Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin to compete for the place between the posts from next season, according to Marca.

Having had a spell with Atletico, Courtois returned to the Spanish capital from Chelsea last summer in a move which was designed to see him battle it out with Keylor Navas for a starting spot, while the 20-year-old Lunin was loaned out to Leganes in order to get some games under his belt. The season has been nothing short of a disaster for Los Blancos who now don’t stand a chance of winning a single trophy this term, while their greatest rivals Barcelona remain on course for a treble.

With Zidane determined to give Courtois and Lunin a chance, Keylor Navas is looking very unlikely to stay at Santago Bernabeu. The Costa Rica international will be informed of the coach’s decision and then he’ll make his own – whether he wishes to stay as the third choice or to leave the club. At 32 years of age, time isn’t on his side, and as he’s about to enter the last year of his current contract, it is likely he will be sold this summer for a reasonable fee.
