Lazio announce Sarri departure by mutual consent

Lazio have confirmed the departure of Maurizio Sarri for a second time, with the outgoing head coach reportedly set to take charge at Atalanta.

The Biancocelesti announced on Wednesday that a mutual agreement had been reached to terminate the 67-year-old's contract, as well as those of his coaching staff.

Sarri initially led Lazio between 2021 and 2024, guiding the club to a second-place finish in Serie A during his second season in charge.

The former Napoli and Juventus boss returned to the Italian capital for a second spell last June, helping the Biancocelesti reach this season's Coppa Italia final.

However, they were beaten by Inter in that showpiece match and underwhelmed in Serie A, finishing ninth in the table and missing out on European qualification for 2026-27.

Sarri is reportedly set to replace Raffaele Palladino at Atalanta, with Cristiano Giuntoli displacing Tony D'Amico as the club's director of sport.

Lazio, meanwhile, are believed to have agreed terms with former Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso to become Sarri's replacement.
