Adelaide United climbed off the bottom of the A-League table after a 2-0 win over the Wellington Phoenix on Friday.
The Reds recorded their first victory under returning coach John Kosmina, who is in his second stint at the club, as goals from Bruce Djite and Antony Golec guided them to the win over a sluggish Phoenix outfit.
Striker Djite opened the scoring in the 16th minute after the hosts had made a bright start.
The nine-time Australia international blasted a left-foot volley inside Tony Warner’s near post after a clever flick from Dario Vidosic.
Phoenix, who are fifth but could have moved into third with a win, also had their chances, with midfielder Tim Brown heading an effort onto the post from inside the area.
Adelaide dominated the second half and wrapped up the points when Golec, deployed at left-back, capitalised on Warner’s parry of Vidosic’s well-struck free-kick to tap in and double his side’s advantage.
The hosts comfortably saw out the win, ending a six-game winless run that dated back to November 11.
