“This question has to be asked to the player, he knows there is interest from many clubs and he will make his decision. We can only wait, like everyone else”.
Those were the words of Barcelona’s sporting director Eric Abidal, who provided fans with an update on the status of a potential move for Frenkie de Jong.
The 21 year old midfielder is quite easily one of the most sought after players in European football today, with speculation running rampant over the last few months regarding where he is going to end up next. He’s spent the last two years with the Ajax team and in that time, he’s helped to build them back up to the point where they’re one again considered to be a respected team in the realms of the Champions League.
De Jong has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, although Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be very interested.
