Agent: Hamsik was Milan´s ´Mr X´

Marek Hamsik’s agent has claimed his client was AC Milan’s ‘Mr X’ during the last transfer window.

Milan chief executive officer Adriano Galliani claimed the Serie A champions would make one high-profile signing before the start of the 2011/12 season.

That led to constant speculation about the identity of Milan’s mystery man but, in the end, there was no big-name arrival at the San Siro.

The club was repeatedly linked with a move for Slovakia international forward Hamsik during that time.

Hamsik’s representative Mino Raiola told Tuttosport on Wednesday: “Milan’s Mr X was Marek Hamsik.”

The agent claimed the reason the proposed deal collapsed was because of the 560 million-euro fine Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi was ordered to pay as part of the fallout from the Lodo Mondadori case.

Raiola said that Hamsik was to be offered the trequartista role by the Rossoneri ‘but then came the Mondadori decision and at that point nothing more was done about it’.

The deal is now unlikely to be resurrected, with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis claiming in December that Hamsik had signed a new deal with the club, tying him at the San Paolo until June 2015.

In 23 appearances for Napoli in all competitions this season, Hamsik has scored eight goals and contributed six assists.
