Ajax have requested that only women and children be allowed to attend the upcoming KNVB Beker clash with AZ.

The first game between the two sides was called off after a fan invaded the pitch and attacked AZ goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado.

In September, Fenerbahce matches were only attended by women and children because of a pitch invasion by fans in pre-season and Ajax have requested a similar initiative for their rematch with AZ.

“The KNVB has an application from Ajax regarding the admission of women and children in the cup match between Ajax and AZ on January 19,” a KNVB spokesperson told De Telegraaf.

“The union has not disagreed with the proposal, however, the KNVB requested that Ajax submit a number of conditions which are defined. Only then will there be a formal decision.”

Ajax and AZ also meet on January 22 in the Eredivisie with Frank de Boer’s men sitting five points behind the league leaders.
