Alexander-Arnold pushing to be fit for Liverpool reunion after sustaining hamstring injury

Real Madrid have confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold sustained a muscle injury in his left leg during their Champions League victory over Marseille on Tuesday.

Alexander-Arnold was forced off after just five minutes at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and was replaced by Dani Carvajal, who was sent off late in the match.

The England international is expected to miss up to six weeks of action for Xabi Alonso’s side, and faces a race to be fit for a return to Liverpool at the start of November.

Madrid take on Arne Slot’s side at Anfield on November 4, which would mark Alexander-Arnold’s first appearance on Merseyside since his summer switch to LaLiga.

The 26-year-old has made 10 appearances for Madrid across all competitions since his move, eight of which have been from the start, but has registered just one assist in that time.

“Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. Further updates will follow,” Madrid said in a statement.

Alexander-Arnold was also omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad for their World Cup qualifying victories over Andorra and Serbia earlier this month.

With the news of his injury, he also appears set to miss the Three Lions’ upcoming friendly against Wales and World Cup qualifying clash away to Latvia on October 14.
