Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Ruben Amorim is unhappy at Old Trafford after he started a “fire” with his comments following Saturday’s draw with Leeds United.

In the aftermath of a 1-1 draw with United’s old rivals at Elland Road, Amorim created more doubt about his long-term future at the club by saying he expected to serve as a manager and have a greater say in recruitment, rather than acting as a head coach – his official job title.

United also drew their previous Premier League game against lowly Wolves, who had only taken two points from 18 matches to that point, and they remain three points adrift of the top four.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast for Sky Sports, the former United right-back said all was not well behind the scenes.

“Something has happened in the last week which means that Amorim is starting to unleash a little bit,” Neville said.

“It looks to me that he is not happy with something in the hierarchy. Obviously, something is annoying him, he’s obviously not feeling the support. He’s obviously letting go.

“When you say that you came to the club as a manager, I thought he was appointed as the head coach and quite clearly appointed to coach the team.

“Manager is a title that we don’t see any more. I think he’s suggesting that he needs to be given the ability to manage more departments of the club.”
