Arsenal gunning for glory at home and in Europe, says bullish Madueke

Noni Madueke sees no reason why Arsenal should not back themselves to win the Premier League and Champions League double this season.

After losing in dramatic fashion to Aston Villa last weekend, and seeing Manchester City beat Sunderland, Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League has been cut to just two points.

The Gunners bounced back with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Club Brugge on Wednesday, though, with Madueke scoring twice and Gabriel Martinelli also on target.

That victory saw Mikel Arteta’s team maintain their perfect record in this season’s Champions League. They now have a 95.2% chance of winning the league phase, according to Opta’s supercomputer, which also ranks them as favourites to win the competition (23.3%).

“We’re fighting on all fronts,” Madueke told TNT Sports.

“I feel like we can win this competition and win the league, that has to be the aim. We’re in a good place at the moment.

“We’re tight, that’s the main thing. We want each other to do well, we know there are loads of minutes for all of us.

“It’s about all of us as a collective, we know we all have a part to play. That’s the good thing about this team.”

This Arsenal campaign marks just the fourth occasion that an English side has won each of their first six games of a Champions League campaign, after Liverpool in 2021-22, Manchester City in 2023-24, and Liverpool again in 2024-25.

Madueke, meanwhile, is the first player in Arsenal’s history to score each of his first three goals for the club in the European Cup/Champions League.

He added; “I think the bare minimum I need to give to my team is threat. Obviously, trying to score and be as decisive as possible, that’s the next level I need to get to in terms of being consistently decisive for club and country. I think I can reach that level.

“Last Champions League game I scored, nice to get another two, hopefully I can bring that form into the league.”

Martinelli has also been in fine form in Europe, and is the first Arsenal player to score in five successive appearances in the Champions League, and first in all major European competitions since Thierry Henry in the UEFA Cup in April 2000 (six).

Arsenal continue their Premier League title challenge when they host lowly Wolves on Saturday.
