Anderlecht have moved four points clear atop the Belgian First Division, after a 3-0 win over Club Brugge on Sunday.
First-half goals from Dieumerci Mbokani and Milan Jovanovic sent Ariel Jacobs’ men on their way at Stade Constant Vanden Stock, before Matias Suarez completed the surprisingly comfortable victory after the interval.
Third-placed Club Brugge are now six points adrift of the league leaders, while Gent remain second after their 2-1 loss to Lierse on Saturday.
The hosts were ahead after three minutes, with Suarez setting up Congo striker Mbokani to open the scoring.
Former Liverpool attacker Jovanovic doubled Anderlecht’s lead in the 24th minute, before Suarez sealed the win just after the hour-mark.
The Argentine beat Club Brugge goalkeeper Bojan Jorgacevic to a long pass and made no mistake with his finish into an open goal.
Club Brugge created chances of their own, but were made to pay for their wastefulness.
